I’ve been talking about shutting this site down for years now, and I think it’s finally time to pull that trigger. I know a very few people still read it, so I’m going to explain my reasons here, and then I’ll pull the plug for good in a couple of weeks.
About eight years ago, I started learning Japanese. Maybe seven or nine, I don’t remember the exact date. I still remember when I decided to do so – I was watching a Morning Musume HaroMoni episode where they were doing an “English Lesson”, which was anything but, and everything about it fascinated me. The culture, the language, everything. So I decided at that time to start learning Japanese.
But I have a character flaw, or at least had. And it’s a big one. I’m more talk than substance sometimes. So I immediately started a blog to document my journey.
It was a dumb idea and I should have spent the time maintaining that blog actually learning stuff.
I won’t go into the history of this blog and how I probably semi-deliberately destroyed it, but at the end of the day, it’s a resource hog that I have no reason to keep up anymore. It’s not helping anyone, not least me, and I have no reason to continue to maintain it. So, I won’t.
I’m still learning Japanese. I won’t pretend I’m doing a great job at it, but I can pass JLPT N5 now, which is something, I suppose. Only took me years. And I’ll continue to learn. Maybe someday I’ll be able to do something constructive with it. But, at the moment, this isn’t it. So I’m turning it off. I may keep the domain and repurpose it for something more useful, because I think it’s a cool domain. Or cool enough anyway.
